Meet the Author: John D. Kennedy

John D. Kennedy was born in Durham City and educated in engineering and automotive design before spending more than three decades working throughout the global automotive industry.

His career took him across Britain, Europe, Asia and North America, providing a front-row seat to the post-industrial cities, working-class communities and international networks that would later influence his fiction.

BISHOP: E16 to SW3 is his debut novel and the first instalment in a planned four-book James Bishop series. Set against the criminal upheaval that followed the fall of the Kray twins, the novels chart four decades of British organised crime through the rise of one man from East End street criminal to underworld power broker.

His influences include Raymond Chandler, Dashiell Hammett, Jim Thompson, Ross Macdonald, Elmore Leonard and James Ellroy, alongside the distinctly British noir tradition of Ted Lewis, author of Jack's Return Home, later adapted as Get Carter.

Writing under the PRESTIGE NOIR imprint, Kennedy creates crime fiction rooted in history, character and place—stories shaped as much by industrial Britain as by the crimes committed within it.

He lives in Newport Beach, California, and remains a lifelong observer of Britain, its people and its contradictions.

He also maintains that supporting Leeds United and Sunderland AFC is a vocation rather than a hobby.
